One of the podcasts I watch on YouTube is Soph Knits Daily. Sophie and her boyfriend Wilson have been travelling around UK and Europe for a few months and post about their adventures knitting in different locations. Initially, the episodes only featured Sophie, but Wilson has become a knitter, and they now post a joint podcast called We Knit Daily. For a beginner knitter, Wilson is very adventurous and has already made a couple of garments for himself; Impressive.
In one episode, Sophie shared about her love/hate relationship with swatching. She found it a chore and a waste of yarn but also found it beneficial especially when trying new yarns or trialling yarn colours for a colourwork garment. To overcome the negative aspects of swatching, she hit on the good idea of not just knitting a square that was discarded but knitting something useful. The only guideline is that the item must be large enough to measure the gauge accurately.
Initially, she made items that didn’t need patterns, like zippered pouches pieced with colourwork swatches and headbands, but then she found a whole lot of patterns for smaller items on Ravelry.

One of them is the AirPod Cozy by Olga Olach made with 4 ply yarn.
I take my AirPods to the gym and having them in a small pouch that can easily be seen in my bag, seemed like a good idea.
The pattern is straightforward and is knit in the round. I used my favouirite DPNS and a small amount of sock yarn from my Beautiful Bits basket.
Olga includes three options for binding off, and I chose the Kitchener Stitch option. It was like knitting a sock for my Airpods.

It was a fun project and would make a nice gift. It’s inspired me to knit more small projects, and I plan to investigate some of the other patterns Sophie discovered.
Hope – an anchor for my soul …
My prayer for you (and me) today is from Romans 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
The hope that Jesus gives me is like an anchor for a ship. Storms of temptation and opposition may try to drive my life away from Christ, but He secures my hope in His perfect work as Saviour and Priest. He holds me fast.
He won’t let me be blown away by life’s problems – I belong to Him.
‘We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner Jesus, has entered on our behalf.” (Heb 6:19-20)
Until next time
Lyn
