For a number of years, I was in the habit of making a new Christmas-themed project bag to use during the holiday season for my stitching or knitting projects. I’ve made zippered pouches (e.g. Merry and Bright) drawstring bags (e.g., Merry Christmas Bag) and small totes (e.g. Christmas Magic) and enjoyed them all!
Last year, life got in the way, and there was no new bag but this year I’m picking up the habit again and a new project bag is in the making!
Inspiration…
My inspiration for the new project bag is one of my favourite Christmas songs, Light of the World, by We the Kingdom.
Light of the world, Treasure of heaven
Brilliant like the stars in the wintery sky
Joy of the Father, reach through the darkness
Shine across the earth, send the shadows to fly
In John 8:12 Jesus said: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
A few years ago, we lived in a house surrounded by bush (i.e. lots of trees) on a street that had no streetlights. I would go running in the early mornings and in Winter, it was still dark when I left, with the sun rising by the time I returned. It was a bit scary because I couldn’t see far in front of me and I was always on high alert, afraid of what I couldn’t see lurking in the bushes. As a result, my confidence dropped and it affected how I ran.
Then one day, Robin surprised me with a light that I could attach to my cap. What a difference that made. The darkness was dispelled; I could see things for what they were and was no longer afraid of what might be around me. My confidence grew because I could see where to place my feet and as a result I ran more freely.
That’s the difference that Jesus brings into our lives when we put our faith in Him. His light dispels fear as He restores our hope and leads us into the future He has prepared for us.
The words of the song say it so well:
Light of the world, crowned in a manger
Born for the cross, to suffer, to save
High King of heaven, death is the poorer
And we are the richer by the price that He paid, oh
Sing hallelujah, sing hallelujah
Sing hallelujah for the things He has done
Come and adore Him, bow down before Him
Sing hallelujah to the Light of the world
In Progress…

I’ve designed a stitchery to showcase the theme and it’s starting to take shape.
The fabric? Well, I couldn’t resist a bundle of Tilda’s Christmas fabrics.
They will do very nicely.

I’m hoping to have it finished by the start of December so it can be my project bag for this year’s Advent Calendar.
Until next time
Lyn
