Summer of Stitching continues…

The Summer of Stitching with the Bakery Bears is in full swing with two projects finished and the third begun.

Practically Perfect Socks …

First project of Summer of Stitching

The first project in the Summer of Stitching wasa pair of socks, aptly named, Practically Perfect Socks in honour of Mary Poppins. The socks have a simple lace pattern on the leg, and the remainder is in stocking stitch. As usual, I knit mine on DPNs and I love the way the soft, plump yarn suited the design. I’ve claimed the socks for myself and are enjoying wearing them.

Project Bag …

The second project for this year’s Summer of Stitching was a project bag and I was able to purchase some Mary Poppins’ themed fabric.  Kay, provided video instructions to make the bag and even though I have made numerous bags myself, I still followed her method because it’s always good to see how other people do things.

The bag is now ready for the next project: another pair of socks.

Chim Chim Cher-ee Socks …

The second pair of socks is inspired by Bert, the chimney sweep, and the song that he sings, Chim Chim Cher-ee.

For her sample, Kay chose a variegated grey yarn with a couple of rows of dark grey contrast for the top of the cuff. For my socks, I’m using a variegated purple yarn by Sockworthy, a local dyer, and for the edge of the cuff, a dark purple from Cascade Heritage.

Unfortunately the photo does not do the yarn justice because the lighter yarn is actually the purple yarn – not blue!

Sufficient Grace …

It’s been 3 ½ years since my husband died, and I still carry the pain of his loss. Most days, it’s hardly noticeable but other days it’s a heavy burden that wears me down. Yesterday was one of those days and in frustration I asked the Lord “how long will I have to carry this?”  He reminded me of the Apostle Paul, who carried what he referred to as a ‘thorn in my flesh” (2 Cor 12:7. Paul asked the Lord three times to remove it, but He didn’t.  The Lord told Paul that “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Cor 12:9).

Grace, is God’s unmerited favour and was expressed through Jesus Christ, whose sacrifice provides salvation and reconciliation with God, but is not limited to that. God’s grace also sustains, strengthens, and empowers believers, especially in weakness.

That’s why Paul was able to boast in his weakness, “… so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (2Cor 12:9)

Like Paul, I’m thankful that I don’t have to carry this thing in my own strength. Every morning I can look to God, for a fresh impartation of Grace to carry me through that day and my life is a testimony to the goodness, grace, and mercy of my loving Heavenly Father.

The Bible says: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lam 3:22-23)
