Wild Wood Shawl

For the past couple of years (at least), The Bakery Bears (Dan and Kay Jones) host a Mystery Advent Knit-along which starts on 1December and finishes on 24 December. The projects have been varied and for Christmas 25, it was a shawl knit in DK yarn called Wild Wood Shawl, inspired by the book Wind in the Willows.

December seemed to arrive ‘suddenly’ for me, and I wasn’t able to get myself organised in time to join in with the KAL.  But I really liked the idea of knitting a cosy DK shawl to use as my Reading Shawl that I can snuggle under on Winter evenings when sleep eludes me and I find comfort in reading in bed!  So, I decided to make my shawl a New Year project and cast-on after Christmas.

On the Needles

The yarn I chose is Bendigo Woollen Mills Classic DK in five colours meant to evoke a ‘wood’, two greens, cream, silver, and russet red.  The shawl in knit in garter stitch stripes and finished with a lace edge.

It’s a great easy knitting project, although as it grows, the rows become very long.

So far, it’s looking lovely.

The Wild Wood Shawl is growing.
The silver stripe looks a bit ‘blue’. The rows are getting much longer now.

By the way, did you notice the detail between the stripes? Adds something special don’t you think?

Keep Walking

I love watching the TV series The Chosen. I’m aware that some people have misgivings about it, but for me it’s been a real blessing, and I confess to having watched it more than once. Some episodes, in particular, have impacted me and I’ve picked up little ‘nuggets’ along the way. For example, in one episode, Matthew tells the Roman, Gaius, that when he wakes up in the morning, with his thoughts in a jumble, he remembers that there is only one thing he needs to do today: follow Jesus and then the rest falls into place.

Psalm 84:5-6 says the same thing: Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rais also cover it with pools. They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.  (Psalm 84:5-6)

Life is full of ups and downs. Sometimes it feels like there are more downs than ups; hard places that seem to go on and on. But, the important thing, is not to give up. Set your heart on following the Lord and despite the circumstances around you, just keep on walking with Him. And the times when you go off track or do the wrong thing, receive His grace and mercy and keep on walking.

Until next time
