Socks and Easter

Remember the Key to My Heart Socks? After the weekend away, when I had hoped to start knitting, the project bag holding the socks, was placed on a shelf in my sewing room where it remained while I finished the Wild Wood Shawl. But, as soon as that was finished, the bag was brought out again and the knitting started in earnest.

The socks are knit in stocking stitch except for a row of lace hearts on the leg.

Progress on the Heart Socks
Isn’t the heart design pretty?

Other than that they were smooth sailing and being shorty socks, they were quick to finish. But there was ….

More Hearts…

To make the socks more interesting, two hearts are repeated on the front of the foot just before the toe decreases.

The hearts make the socks extra special

Aren’t they pretty? I especially like the way the yarn knit into stripes on the heel. Think it adds a nice touch.

A special Gift…

These socks were made as a gift for a dear friend going through a tough time. As I knit them, I prayed that as she wears them, she will feel the warmth of the Lord’s presence and that the hearts remind her that she is a much-loved daughter of her Heavenly Father and His love will never fail her and is holding her fast. She has nothing to fear.

Easter…

I don’t know about you, but my memory isn’t what it used to be. I can go into a room to get something and by time I get there, I’ve forgotten what I was looking for. As for names, it’s pretty well hit and miss – sometimes I remember names of people I haven’t seen for years and other times I can’t remember my neighbour’s name!

But on the other hand, I remember some things too well like the pain of losing someone, the ache of loneliness, and the times I’ve lacked things. And in the process, I forget what God has done for me in those situations. How He comforted me, provided for me, healed me, and blessed me in the darkest days.

In Psalm 103:1-2, King David commanded his soul to praise the Lord with all his might.

“Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.”

And reminded himself not to forget what God has done:

“Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”

And in the rest of the Psalm, he recounts the amazing things that God has done starting with:

“- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,

who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,

who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Ps 103:3-5)

David didn’t want to ever forget the Lord’s Goodness, and we need to be just as determined not to forget it either. When we only focus on the ‘bad’ things in our life, we forget about God and the good things He has done.

But the most amazing thing He has done for us, is give His Son.  Colossians 1:21 says that we were alienated from God because of our sin and in ourselves we had no way of bridging that gap.

“But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.”

We can stand in confidence knowing that Jesus has paid the price for us and that our sins are forgiven. He has exchanged our unrighteousness for His righteousness and that because of His grace and mercy, nothing will ever separate us from His love. But we should never take it for granted but like David command our souls to praise our Lord with all our might.

Happy Easter

Sing of This …

The worship song, Sing of This by Bethel Music, captures these verses so well and encourages us to sing of all the good things that God has done in our lives.

O my soul, sing of the faithfulness of God, Oh my soul, Your hallelujah

Sing for joy, sing of His never-ending love, O my soul, sing of this.

Until next time

Lyn
