Log Cabin Scrap Quilt

One of my goals this year, is to finish the WIPs that are languishing in my sewing room.

The first, is a Log Cabin quilt I started in February 2025. I started with good intentions butI fell out of love with this quilt somewhere along the way. I think it’s because like to see things finished but last year was eventful and I couldn’t seem to find the time/enthusiasm to work on it. When I was going through my unfinished projects recently, this quilt was at the top of the list.  I set myself a goal to finish it in January and I just made it by a week.  Well done me!!!

Log Cabin Cushion

I made this Log Cabin cushion in January 2025, and loved it so much, that when I was finished, I started making smaller log cabin blocks measuring 8” square to make a quilt.

I wanted it to be a stash buster using only fabric I had in my stash, but it took more fabric than anticipated, and I had to buy a few fat quarters to make enough blocks for a quilt.

Blocks

I ended up with 30 blocks which were arranged into six rows of five blocks, but Bella (granddaughter) needed a quilt for her bed (who doesn’t need a quilt?) so I had to rethink it.

I had no fabric left (yeah) so making more blocks was out of the question. The only solution was to add sashing. I auditioned white against the blocks but thought it took away from the pretty colours, so chose a white fabric with tiny blue dots – much better.

Border and Binding

For the border, I settled on a pretty blue floral print, simple because blue is Bella’s favourite colour (at the moment).

As for quilting, I chose to machine quilt in an all-over free form motion which seemed to take forever.  Once that was finished I bound the quilt in a pink print.

The finished size is 52” x 61” and fortunately Bella was happy to have it. Me, I’m just relieved to have it finished!

Perfect Timing…

Earlier this week, I arrived at my doctor’s surgery on time – at least I thought so. But the Doctor was not on time, and it was forty-five minutes later that I was called into her office. I’m not good at waiting but I have become accustomed to her lateness and always go prepared with my Kindle or my knitting/crochet bag.  Keeping busy always makes the wait bearable.

I wonder why I can’t apply the same logic to my relationship with God.

For the doctor, I could wait confidently because I knew that she keeps her appointments, she may be late, but I wasn’t forgotten, she would attend to me, I just needed to wait.

When it comes to waiting for prayers to be answered, I’m not as understanding and if I don’t hear an immediate answer, I start to question God’s motives or His love and quickly become discouraged.

Psalm 90: 4 says: “A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.”

The verse reminds me that God’s clock is different to mine; He lives outside of time and sees things from an eternal perspective. Having to wait for an answer to prayer, does not mean He’s forgotten me or is not concerned about my problem. He loves me and is working in the situation for my good.

Instead of focussing on how long I have to wait, I need to get on with my life, knowing that I have trusted Him with my problem and He is working on it.  When He does answer my prayer, unlike the doctor, He won’t be late but is always on time – His not mine.

Until next time
